Callan Sait
Visiting Associate
Professor of Anthropology
Hi there! I’m a newly appointed Visiting Associate Professor in anthropology, here in the Department of Society, Media and Culture at ICU. I’m a cultural anthropologist by training, and my research interests are reflected in my two primary overlapping research fields: medical anthropology and science and technology studies (STS). I am interested in how notions of ‘good care’ are conceptualised and enacted in practice, and the roles that various technologies and ‘technological imaginaries’ play throughout this process.
I received my PhD from Te Herenga Waka – Victoria University of Wellington (New Zealand), in 2022. Driven by my research interests and attending to contemporary social and demographic issues, my PhD research focused on technologically-assisted eldercare – particularly for those with dementia – in long-term eldercare facilities in the Kansai region from 2018-2020.
I currently teach ANT101: Comparative Study of Cultures, and am preparing for 200-level courses on environmental and economic anthropology, as well as a 300-level course on the anthropology of science and technology.
My emails (and my office) are always open!
